I have always had a great love for music and while I have a decent home audio setup, I find I never have the time to just sit and enjoy it. If I had the money I would own the best equipment money could buy, but we all have to live within our means and budget. Sound quality is very important for me, some say I am nuts and although that may be correct, I do believe I have keen ear for audio quality. Since my work en tales hours of sitting behind a computer screen, why no have a decent computer sound system. I enjoy listening to music while I work.

Recently I have discovered a new world in studio master music available for download…these tracks are available in lossless formats (flac) at 24bit/96khz resolution. These tracks are still very rare, but record companies like Linn Records are making an effort in making these available…you can also find high resolution music at HDtracks. Now you can’t simply download these tracks and play them in iTunes, you need audio software that supports lossless flac files and more importantly the high resolutions, I am currently using Songbird. You will also need to take a close look at your sound card, the hardware needs to support 24bit/96khz if you want to hear the full benefits of 24bit music. This is the stage I am at, although my soundcard says it supports 24/192khz, I am still unclear if it is actually supported in the analog audio output I am using for my Bose Companion 3’s…I will have to do a more research on my card, I have a feeling it is only the digital optical output that supports the high resolution.
